Common questions about banking

Is my money safe at an online bank?+

If it is FDIC-insured, deposits are protected up to $250,000 per depositor, per institution, per ownership category, exactly as at a branch bank.

Why are online rates so much higher?+

No branch network means far lower overhead, and online banks compete for deposits on rate rather than on location.

Should I pick a CD or savings?+

A CD locks the rate but also locks the money. Savings stays liquid but the rate can fall. Match the choice to when you actually need the cash.

Money Central is not a lender, bank, insurer, or credit repair organization and does not make credit decisions. We are an advertising and matching service. Rates, terms, and approval depend entirely on the provider you are matched with and on your own credit profile. Not all applicants will qualify. Deposit accounts are offered by third-party financial institutions. APYs are variable unless stated otherwise and are subject to change. FDIC or NCUA insurance limits apply.
